Respira Besòs addresses the urgent challenge of climate change by reimagining how cities can integrate renewable energy within their existing fabric. The project proposes transforming industrial remains into new energy epicentres that support both ecological renewal and urban growth. Centred on the Three Chimneys of Sant Adrià de Besòs, a historically industrial area on the edge of Barcelona, the thesis envisions the site as a catalyst for a post-carbon future. By combining clean energy infrastructure with public spaces, housing, and cultural programmes, the project aims to bridge past and future, aligning heritage with innovation. Ultimately, Respira Besòs seeks to cultivate resilient neighbourhoods where green energy, ecology, and community coexist towards a post-carbon metropolis.

we tend to take for granted’
